ProgrammesLOCUS delivers a range of customised training and development programmes, particularly focusing on support for the community sector. At the present time LOCUS is the contracted managing agent for the Community Leadership Programme, the flagship capacity building programme funded by The International Fund for Ireland. (For further details see below.) LOCUS has also been responsible for the design and delivery of a range of training and development programmes such as the Newtownabbey Inspire Programme, the Ballymena Future Challenges Programme, the Lisburn Ruralink Programme, the Craigavon Farm Diversification Programme and the Lower Bann Farm Diversification Programme. Community Leadership ProgrammeThe Community Leadership Programme funded by the IFI is a support programme for community regeneration groups focused on project development and the improvement of management practice. The aim of the project is to practice a co-ordinated range of activities to enable all participant members of local communities to strengthen their leadership capabilities, and so assisting in the development of sustainable social and economic regeneration in disadvantaged areas. Groups are recruited onto the programme annually from Northern Ireland and the boarder counties of Ireland. Each group has access to: - One to one mentoring support
- Group training in management practice
- Funding for a small project
- Funding to visit best practice projects
- Networking events
- Bursaries from the University of Ulster for the certificate in management practice.
What the groups have to say: The Community Leadership Programme has brought members together to learn new approaches to community development. The programme has helped the group be more constructive in tackling problems and learning various management skills. Scarva and District Women's Group, Co. Armagh ASPIRE ProgrammeThe ASPIRE Programme has been funded by Ards Local Strategy Partnership under the EU Programme for Peace & Reconciliation. It is a training and support initiative for community groups in the Ards Borough focused upon improving management practice and project development skills.
